Welcome Colton-Finally!!
Well after waiting a week past my due date my doctor scheduled me to be induced on Monday April 5th. I was scheduled to go in on Easter Sunday where they would start the inducing by inserting a foley balloon. This was supposed to get me started and hopefully get me dilated to 3 cm. I left the family at my parents house right before dinner and headed into Kirkland. Went through the whole procedure and then the mid-wife realized I was already dialated to 3 cm, you think they could have checked that before trying to insert the foley balloon-twice??? I was actually pretty happy since part of having it in meant I would have to pull on it a few times an hour or something like that, I wasn't looking forward to that. I was able to go back to my parents house and enjoy Easter dinner and spend time with the family. I was scheduled to come in to Evergreen and be admitted for my induction at 5:30am Monday morning. I had a feeling I wasn't going to make it, and I was right. At about 10:00pm Sunday night I started feeling some contractions, very mild and pretty far apart. I thought that would be a good time to get my stuff ready for the hospital and take a shower, you all know I am a procrastinator. :) After getting ready I headed off to bed to try and get some sleep. I started getting woken up by contractions and they started getting stronger and closer together. Tony was sleeping in the other bedroom and I woke him up with my contractions. At that point I had been having strong contractions every 3-5 minutes for the last hour. Tony came in at about 3:00am and I told him that it was probably time to call his mom and go to the hospital. Thankfully, Irene was able to come down and stay with the kids so they could keep sleeping. Tony took a shower and we got to the hospital at about 3:30am. They checked us in since we were supposed to come in at 5:30am anyway. They check me and I was still only 3cm dilated, jeesh!! Maybe 1/2 an hour later my water broke and the contractions were crazy painful. They checked me again and I was dilated to 6cm. I couldn't get an epidural until my blood work came back since I blood pressure was high and I had protein in my urine that thought I might have pre-eclampsia. I couldn't believe I had to wait for the blood work to come back, the contractions were almost unbearable. The nurse kept calling the lab and she finally got word that I was fine and OK to get the epidural. The nurse had already set up the supplies and had a call in so they were able to give it to me right away, thank goodness!! I got dilated to 9cm pretty fast but the baby wasn't dropping down. They tried to have me push to help him along but when I pushed his heart rate dropped. They decided to let him drop on his own and Tony and I took a nap. They told us later that the cord was wrapped around Colton's next and that's why I couldn't push. They ended up using a vacuum to get him out and he was born Monday at 10:44am. He weighed 8 pounds 8.5 ounces and was 22 inches long. He was a big boy!! It was a little scary at the end, he ended up coming out blue-poor little guy. But after running some blood work they said he was just fine other than a perfect shaped bruise on the top of his head from the vacuum.
