Fall Festival Cakes!

The kids had a fall festival at their school and one of the games at the festival was a cake walk. It was also a contest, the winner receiving a bracelet which gave free access to the bouncy houses and all the games. The kids weren't too worried about winner but they were so excited about making cakes. They each had picked what type of cake they wanted to make. Hayden wanted to make a chocolate bat cake with chocolate frosting. Carsyn wanted to make a chocolate pumpkin cake white frosting. So we searched online for easy design ideas and the results are below. Unfortunately, I got the info mixed up and the cakes were to be brought to school on Thursday for judging not Friday the day of the festival. Luckily we baked the cakes on Wednesday and I found out in enough time to take Hayden's to school with him on Thursday. Carsyn was a little bummed when she came home from school since the kids were the ones that got to vote for their favorite cake she knew we didn't get hers in on time. She was excited when she found out that she could still decorate her pumpkin cake and bring on Friday for the cake walk.
It was pretty cute because each class got to go check out all of the cakes and then vote for their favorite. I asked Hayden if he voted for his and he kind of thought for a minute and said nooo. I guess he didn't think of that. :) Carsyn didn't even know Hayden had completed his cake and there were so many she didn't even see his. The kids were so happy with their cakes and had so much fun they were just happy to have made one.

We always watch the food network challenges and they usually have a cake challenge. Carsyn said she felt like she was competing in the challenge and this was her first cake. I think we need to do some more baking together. :)
